
Terrance V. Smart

Terrance (Terry) Smart began his military journey with the United States Army on December 31, 1965. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood near Waynesville, Missouri. From there he was sent to the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland, for a fourteen-week training course. He was stationed in Giessen, Germany, with Company A of the 308th Supply and Service Battalion from July 1966 through July 1968. He was honorably discharged from service on December 21, 1968.
During his time in the service, Smart was a graduate of the 7th Army Noncommissioned Officers’ Academy. In June 1967, while stationed in Bad Tölz, Germany, Smart was promoted to the rank of Specialist Five. In June 1968, while stationed in Giessen, Germany, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (E-5).
Beyond his military career, Smart was a graduate from Northeast High School Class of 1965. He worked as a Manager for IHC from 1968-1981 and as a Service Manager for Jack Cooper Transport from 1983-2009. He was married on September 4, 1965, to Helen. They are the parents of three children and five grandchildren. Mr. Smart is active in the community as a member of the Freemasons (Polo Lodge #232) and the American legion (Polo Post #557) and serves with the Honor Guard for Post #557 as Bugler and Chaplain. Terry had the honor and privilege to participate in the 2023 KC Honor Flight where he and other fellow veterans were flown to Washinton, D.C. to visit five memorials. Mr. Smart resides in Polo, Missouri, with his wife, Helen.
